St. Mary's School opened its doors this year to 633 students and 60 staff members. At St. Mary's we are determined to create an environment where all individuals feel comfortable in our school. We will greet "With Open Arms" our students, parents, staff, parish, and community partners. We encourage all members of our community to communicate honestly and openly with each other. We will focus on strengthening our relationships to allow for all individuals to feel safe and comfortable in our educational setting.
Academic Focus
The school is a learning institution for Kindergarten to Grade 6 students. Our focus is to provide quality instruction that meets the guidelines set forth by Alberta Education and Christ the Redeemer School Division. Our emphasis is on extending all student experiences in all learning domains. Our academic focus will emphasize the development of strong basic skills that can be transferred to all learning situations. Language Arts, Mathematics, and Religion are areas of instructions that are emphasized with all students receiving quality learning experiences in Social Studies, Physical Education, Health, Art, French, Drama, Computers, and Music/Band. High expectations are the norm for St. Mary's and, with support from school and home, all students will be able to perform at a high level. The school provides a number of special services for students requiring assistance. The school has a full-time special education teacher who works with students who have acute learning needs. The school also has a fully functional Early Intervention Program for students in Kindergarten to Grade 2, as well as a Resource Program and Basic Skills Reinforcement Program, which serves students in Grade 3 to 6.
Religious Focus
At St. Mary's School we aim to provide a high standard of academic education within a caring and nurturing Catholic environment. We encourage all members of our school community to express their faith in ways that are reflective of the modeling provided by our Lord Jesus and Saint Mary. The school staff maintains a close relationship with Father Steve Smith of St. James and St. Michael's Parish through shared celebrations and open dialogue.
Jesus said "Let the children come to me and do not stop them, because the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these." Matthew 19:14
