Good Shepherd
School is a Kindergarten to
Grade Six School that serves the
town of
Okotoks and the northern
portion of the M.D. of
Foothills. The school presently
has about 570 students and a
teaching staff of 36 teachers
and 18 support staff. The
mission of Good Shepherd School
is to provide a high standard of
academic education within a
nurturing and caring Catholic
environment.
Students and staff are
encouraged to express their
faith in many ways and to allow
Christ, the Good Shepherd, to
live within them. The school
operates on a team philosophy
where all teachers are connected
to a team of teachers that meet
weekly to focus on the
improvement of student learning.
The school provides academic
opportunities in all domains
including art, computers,
religious education, music, band
and special education. Our grade
six students also have the
opportunity to compete in school
sports at divisional
tournaments.
The school is renowned for its
carved art murals created by
artist Al Gerritsen. There is a
massive work of art depicting
the Catholic faith surrounding
our library and includes the
story of creation, the prophets,
the birth, life and death of
Jesus Christ, church history and
some of the saints. The display
ends with Pope John Paul II and
Mother Theresa, our most recent
esteemed teachers of the faith.
Mr. Wayne Lorenz, Principal, and
Mrs. Arlene Frederick and Mr.
Paul Lavery, Vice-Principals, of
Good Shepherd School, welcome
all visitors interested in
touring the school. Please call
(403)938-4318 to arrange a
visit. The school is located at
52 Robinson Drive, Okotoks.
