Staffing Announcement - Director of Catholic Education
Congratulations to Mr. Grant Gay who has accepted the position of Director of Catholic Education. Mr. Gay holds degrees from the University of Windsor, University of Alberta, and Newman Theological College. After having pursued a M.Sc. in biochemistry, Mr. Gay shifted his focus to moral theology and studied at Newman Theological College. Although the pursuit of his M.T.S. would ultimately focus on the place of personhood in embryonics, Mr. Gay received thorough instruction in systematic, liturgical, scriptural, and moral theology.
In addition to his formal theological education, Mr. Gay also served as a chaplain at the University of Alberta Hospital while completing his Clinical Pastoral Education. There he tended to the pastoral and spiritual needs of patients, their families, and healthcare workers; putting theology to practice as he walked with people through some of their most trying times. Following his M.T.S., Mr. Gay returned to the University of Alberta to acquire a B.Ed. focusing on secondary sciences and religious education.
Mr. Gay began his career with CTR Catholic teaching science and religion at St. Anthony’s School in Drumheller before serving as Dean of Academics at Clear Water Academy. He subsequently transitioned to the position of Vice-Principal at Holy Trinity Academy in 2016, and then as Vice-Principal at The Centre for Learning@HOME in 2021. Regardless of the roles he has taken on in the division, Mr. Gay has always sought to deepen the faith of his fellow teachers so to enable them to permeate that faith through the content of their lessons, and their interactions with their students.
Mr. Gay shares, “Public Catholic education is of value because it affords our staff, students, and families the freedom to come to know God. Part of this comes through classroom instruction, but more so through our everyday interactions with each other, his image, in environments where faith pervades. This knowledge of God is so important because we can never truly love what we don’t know. I am very happy to be able to serve CTR Catholic as Director of Catholic Education. I look forward to working with the good people in our schools who continue to create public places where all are free to learn, and are welcomed and loved regardless of where they are from, the road they walk, or where they will go.”
Associate Superintendent Mariette Moss shares, “Mr. Gay is a man of integrity and deep faith. His leadership experience and his strong theological and pastoral background will help to serve our division in his new role as Director of Catholic Education. Mr. Gay is eager to work with teachers and administrators in supporting the Religious Education program as well as supporting curriculum work with the Learning Department. We are very pleased to welcome Mr. Gay to the team.”
