Information Privacy
Christ The Redeemer Catholic Schools is committed to protecting personal information and being transparent about how student, family and staff information is collected, used, shared and managed.
Collection of Personal Information:
Christ The Redeemer (CTR) Catholic Schools collects and uses personal information about students and families to provide safe and effective educational programs. CTR Catholic collects, uses and discloses personal information as authorized or required under applicable legislation, including Alberta’s Education Act, the Student Record Regulation and the Protection of Privacy Act. In some cases, information may also be used or disclosed to meet legal, safety, operational or educational requirements.
CTR Catholic may also collect and manage personal information about employees, job applicants, volunteers, contractors, trustees, service providers, and members of the public where required for employment, operational, safety, legal, administrative, or governance purposes.
Why We Collect Information
We collect student and family information so we can:
- Create and maintain student records, report cards, and attendance records
- Arrange transportation, safety plans, and emergency contacts
- Provide digital learning accounts, classroom resources and educational supports
- Support student activities, awards, and athletics, scholarships and school programming
- Communicate with families about school operations, student learning, emergencies and important updates
- Meet legal, educational, accountability, and records management requirements
How Information May Be Shared
Personal information may be used or shared for school-related, employment-related, operational, legal, or administrative purposes, including:
- Student records, report cards, and attendance
- Transportation, safety, and emergency contacts
- Law enforcement or legal matters, where required or authorized
- Digital learning resources and technology accounts
- Student ID cards, yearbooks, and library access
- Awards, scholarships, athletics, student supports and school activities
- Approved service providers that support division operations

How Information is Protected and Retained
CTR Catholic protects personal information using administrative, technical, and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information.
Personal information is retained only as long as necessary to meet legal, educational, operational, accountability, or records retention requirements, and is securely disposed of when no longer required.
Your Rights
Individuals may request access to their own personal information or request a correction if they believe their personal information is inaccurate or incomplete. Requests may be directed to your school and/or CTR Catholic’s Access to Information and Privacy Coordinator.
Some information is still required to be collected, used or disclosed so CTR Catholic can provide educational programming, meet legal obligations, maintain student records, support safety and communicate essential information.
If no changes are made, your most recent consent will remain in place from year to year.
You may also request that certain optional information, such as awards, public participation, photos, videos or student work, not be shared publicly. Please contact your school principal to discuss your request.
Email, Text & Phone Messages
With consent, CTR Catholic may send updates about school activities, events, fundraising, programs and other school-related opportunities.
If you do not provide consent for optional communications, you may miss some activity details or school community updates. However, you will still receive important information related to attendance, academics, student safety, emergencies and required school operations.
Student Work & Photos
With consent, CTR Catholic may publish a student’s work, photo or video in school newsletters, displays, social media, websites, presentations, events or other school-related communications.
Public events, such as sports games, concerts, graduations, celebrations or other school gatherings, may also be photographed or recorded by attendees. CTR Catholic cannot control all photos or recordings taken by members of the public at these events.
News Media
Occasionally, news media may visit schools to highlight positive stories, events, achievements or school activities.
With consent, a student may be photographed, recorded or interviewed by news media.
Privacy Management Program
CTR Catholic’s Privacy Management Program outlines how our division protects personal information and meets our responsibilities under POPA. The PMP includes the policies, administrative procedures, operational procedures, roles, safeguards, training, and review processes used to guide how personal information is collected, used, disclosed, stored, retained, and disposed of across the division. Individuals may also contact the Access to Information and Privacy Coordinator with a privacy question, concern, or complaint about how personal information has been collected, used, disclosed, protected, retained, or disposed of.
