Leadership Announcement - Centre for Learning@HOME
Christ The Redeemer (CTR) Catholic Schools is pleased to announce Shelley Grey-Sortland as Vice Principal for The Centre for Learning@HOME
CTR Catholic is pleased to welcome Ms. Grey-Sortland to the division. Ms. Grey-Sortland brings a wide range of experience as she joins Christ the Redeemer Catholic Schools. Her classroom expertise has been in senior high English Language Arts, and she believes empathy and perspective are developed through exposure to diverse texts and reflection through writing. She taught with the Calgary Catholic School District for 10 years, primarily at Bishop McNally High School. She then worked with the Alberta Distance Learning Centre and Vista Virtual School. Her time with Pembina Hills School Division provided her with valuable experience in course development, assessment, relationship-building, and daily operations within the context of a distance education school. During this time, she also completed a certificate in Technology-Based Learning through Athabasca University, served as President of the English Language Arts Council, and worked on the Curriculum Working Group with Alberta Education. Most recently, Ms. Grey-Sortland worked at West Island College, an independent university-preparatory school, which allowed her to return to the bricks-and-mortar classroom and experience the warmth and support that come with a closely knit community. This combination of experience has given her a keen appreciation for the flexibility and freedom that come with alternative education. She strongly believes that offering students and their families choice in education helps lay the foundation for engagement and success.
Ms. Grey-Sortland shares, “It is an honour to be joining Christ The Redeemer Catholic Schools and stepping into this leadership role at The Centre for Learning@Home. I look forward to working with the centre’s administration, teachers, and support staff and contributing to its continued and growing success. I hope that my unique range of experience will allow me to help each student achieve personal and academic excellence. I am extremely grateful for this opportunity to begin a new chapter in my career with the district, and I am excited to meet the wonderful people I will be working with.”
Principal Lana Clark shares, “I am thrilled to welcome Ms. Grey-Sortland to the leadership team at The Centre for Learning@Home. She brings an impressive depth of experience and a deep appreciation for educational choice and the unique learning paths our students and families take, which reflect our shared values and our school’s culture. I am confident her expertise and passion for student success will complement our dedicated staff and further strengthen our school community. I look forward to working and learning alongside Ms. Grey-Sortland to bring new ideas and opportunities to our school and our community, and to nurture the vision of The Centre for Learning@Home.”
