Leadership Announcement - Director of Catholic Faith Formation and Director of Technology
Congratulations to Mr. Grant Gay in his appointment the position of Director of Catholic Faith Formation and Director of Technology.
Mr. Gay holds degrees from the University of Windsor, University of Alberta, and Newman Theological College. After having pursued a M.Sc. in biochemistry, with a focus on protein structure via nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, Mr. Gay shifted to moral theology and studied at Newman Theological College.
Although the pursuit of his M.T.S. would ultimately focus on the place of personhood in embryonics, Mr. Gay received thorough instruction in systematic, liturgical, scriptural, and moral theology. In addition to his formal theological education, Mr. Gay also served as a chaplain at the University of Alberta Hospital while completing his Clinical Pastoral Education. There he tended to the pastoral and spiritual needs of patients, their families, and healthcare workers; putting theology to practice as he walked with people through some of their most trying times. Following his M.T.S., Mr. Gay returned to the University of Alberta to acquire a B.Ed. focusing on secondary sciences and religious education.
Mr. Gay is currently in formation with the Diocese of Calgary, in conjunction with St. Mary’s University, for ordination to the diaconate. He began his career with CTR Catholic teaching science and religion at St. Anthony’s School in Drumheller before serving as Dean of Academics at Clear Water Academy. He subsequently transitioned to the position of Vice-Principal at Holy Trinity Academy in 2016, and then as Vice-Principal at The Centre for Learning@HOME in 2021. Since 2022, Mr. Gay has served in the position of Director of Catholic Education and Director of Technology for CTR Catholic.
Regardless of the roles he has taken on in the division, Mr. Gay has always sought to help his fellow teachers deepen their connection to Jesus - and the CTR network. Mr. Gay shares, “I’m very happy to be a part of the expansion of our Catholic Education department to focus on Catholic faith formation. Public Catholic education shares in the mission of the Church to share the good news of Jesus Christ with the world. To achieve this, schools need teachers who are well-formed in the Catholic faith to enable programs within our schools that make students who are well-formed in the Catholic faith. Faith formation encapsulates formal religious education as well as spiritual, human, and pastoral endeavours. I look forward to working with the good people in our school division who continue to create public places where all are free to learn about, discuss, practice, and grow in their faith in Christ. I’m also very happy to continue to work with our Information Technology team. The expansion of Catholic Education will allow more of my focus to be directed toward the technological needs of the division. The technological needs of our schools have only increased and will continue to do so. We are on the cusp of an amazing time with the advent of A.I. I want to make sure that the technologies we will have in place are secure and private while serving the needs of our staff and students.”
Superintendent Dr. Andrea Holowka shares, “Mr. Gay continues to be an exceptional leader within Christ The Redeemer, bringing deep expertise in technology alongside a strong commitment to faith formation and Catholic education. We are deeply appreciative of his leadership in helping shepherd our division as it evolves—embracing technological innovation while remaining grounded in and advancing our mission of Catholic education. His ability to thoughtfully integrate innovation with faith-filled purpose continues to strengthen and support our schools and communities.”
