Christ The Redeemer Catholic Schools is pleased to announce Joseph Willemsen as the new Vice-Principal of St. Joseph’s Collegiate in Brooks, beginning this fall.

For the past nine years, Mr. Willemsen has faithfully served the students, staff, and families of St. Joseph’s Collegiate, where he has become a respected educator, coach, mentor, and leader whose commitment to academic excellence, authentic relationships, and student growth has had a lasting impact on the school community.

Known for his approachable nature, positive energy, and ability to build meaningful connections, Mr. Willemsen is a joyful witness to the faith and a trusted presence among students and staff alike. As a Mathematics and Chemistry teacher, Joseph is recognized as a master of curriculum and instruction, while being passionate about developing assessment practices that promote student growth, ownership of learning, and continuous improvement.

This past year, Mr. Willemsen was honored with St. Joseph’s Collegiate’s Excellence in Teaching Award in recognition of his outstanding work in assessment practices and his leadership in cultivating a purposeful and collaborative learning culture within the school.  As Mathematics Department Head, he has worked alongside colleagues to strengthen instructional practice, deepen student learning, and foster a shared commitment to excellence. In recent years, he has also participated in Alberta Education’s Mathematics 30-1 Diploma Examination marking sessions, gaining valuable insight into provincial standards of excellence, and bringing that knowledge back to benefit students and staff at St. Joseph’s Collegiate.

Mr. Willemsen shares, “When I first moved to Brooks nine years ago, I couldn’t have imagined the tremendous impact it would have on my life. This community and its people have had a profound effect on my growth not only as an educator but also as a person. I am humbled by the opportunity to serve as Vice-Principal of St. Joseph’s Collegiate, a place where God is truly at work every day.”

Principal Andrea Schell shares, “I am very pleased to welcome Mr. Willemsen into the role of Vice-Principal at St. Joseph’s Collegiate. Mr. Willemsen brings a deep commitment to student success, thoughtful and collaborative leadership, and a strong dedication to Catholic education, all of which will serve our students, staff, and families well as he transitions into an administrative role here at SJC. I look forward to working with him as my administration partner to support all students and staff of SJC, and the wider Brooks community so that we can continue to be, ‘a community, rooted in faith, seeking excellence for all.’
