Off-Campus Education

All schools have an off-campus education coordinator who can provide students and families with more information about off-campus education opportunities in the areas listed below. CTR schools and students also benefit from the support of a CAREERS school engagement coordinator who provides support to students who are seeking paid internships in high-demand career fields.

Prior to starting an off-campus education placement, students must complete all pre-requisite safety courses as determined by Alberta Education. A worksite inspection must be conducted by the off-campus education coordinator and all required startup paperwork collected prior to a student’s approval to begin an off-campus education placement. Please speak to your school’s off-campus education coordinator for more information on this process.

Registered Apprenticeship Program (also available during summer) - Click here to Register

The Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP) allows high school students to gain hands-on experience in a designated trade while earning high school credits. Students split their time between school and industry, accumulating apprenticeship hours toward their certification. The employer must agree to take on the student as a paid apprentice. RAP provides flexibility in scheduling and helps students develop essential workplace skills while meeting academic requirements. A student must apply for their Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) Record Book, also know as a Blue Book, before they commence a RAP placement.  Students who complete at least one RAP course may be eligible for the $1000 High School Apprenticeship Scholarship

Green Certificate Program

The Green Certificate Program allows Alberta high school students to earn credits while gaining hands-on experience in agricultural production specializations. Students can progress through technician and supervisor levels, with the option to pursue a Farm Manager certification. This program, offered in partnership with Alberta Education and Alberta Agriculture, enables students in grades 10-12 to participate in agriculture-related apprenticeships and develop valuable industry skills. Students choose one of 11 specializations, which can be viewed here. As apprenticeship-style education, students learn on the worksite, under the direction of experienced farm personnel and under the supervision and administration of their high school’s Off-Campus Education Coordinator and their Green Certificate Regional Coordinator.
