Paralympian and former graduate of Holy Trinity Academy, Zak Madell visited Holy Spirit Academy, École Good Shepherd School St. John Paul II Collegiate to celebrate International Wheelchair Day. The purpose of the visit was to provide mentorship and foster a community of inclusivity. Zak even brought his Olympic Silver Medal for show and tell. Thank you Zak Madell for a beautiful visit with our students and sharing your story! CTR would also like the Calgary Foundation for the Stepping Stones grant that made the visit possible.
Today we celebrate all mothers - the mother of the family, as well as motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society. "We love because he first loved us." John 4:19
Yesterday I spent an hour with the Grade 6's at Good Shepherd. We talked Municipal Government so they would be aready for their Mock Council Meeting next week in Council Chambers. I truly love the questions they ask. They are so varied and are genuinely curious about how things work. Things I learnt from the visit - a Graffiti Wall in the community they think is a good idea, they prefer to be a Town not a City, they are just as divided on what to do about deer as the rest of the community, more skateboarding (recreation) is important, 30 mins is not enough time for questions and never ask them all to answer a question at once. Thanks for hanging out with me and I am looking forward to seeing what issue you debate during your mock Council meeting next week. Christ the Redeemer Catholic School Division
Congratulations to this year's Edwin Parr award winners! The award celebrates CTR's outstanding first year teachers.
Loving the support shown in our schools for mental health awareness! 🙏
Check out this CBC radio interview with our very own music teacher Catherine Scott from the The Centre for Learning at Home along with Russ Gavin, band leader at Stanford University, and COO of JackTrip, an online audio technology company, as they talk about CFL's new Music@HOME program which allows students to perform synchronously in a virtual setting. Students can literally experience both band and choir like they were together in person regardless of where they are located across the province. https://www.cbc.ca/listen/live-radio/1-17-edmonton-am/clip/15910393-new-technology-helping-young-musicians-learn-home

On behalf of St. John Paul II Collegiate Parent Council, all parents in the Okotoks community are welcome to attend an informative parent session on Tuesday, May 10th at 7 pm, in-person, in the St. JPII gymnasium (53 Cimarron Drive, Okotoks). Mr. Les Redick is an experienced researcher and presenter on the topic of Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and his sessions have been well-received by CTR audiences in past. The session is of value also for parents whose children do not have ADHD, as he touches on adolescent brain development, executive functioning, and organization. All parents are invited to attend this meaningful parent engagement and learning session – feel free to invite parents whose children do not attend St. JPII!
