Orange Shirt Day in CTR #EveryChildMatters 🧡
Teaching and learning on Truth & Reconciliation 🧡
🧡
Christ The Redeemer (CTR) Catholic Schools Board of Trustees passed a motion to close all CTR schools on Thursday, September 30 to honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation during a special meeting of Board held September 10th. A group of more than 500 stakeholders informed the Board’s decision including consultation with Indigenous Elders, Indigenous educational leaders, Indigenous advisors, Indigenous families of CTR, neighbouring school divisions, CTR’s lead teachers on our Indigenous Education Committee, CTR families, and CTR staff. CTR encourages families to check their local community for opportunities to engage in commemoration of this day. May God bless Canada’s Truth and Reconciliation process. 🧡
The annual Orange Shirt Day on September 30th (recognized in CTR schools tomorrow, September 29th) opens the door to global conversation on all aspects of Residential Schools. It is an opportunity to create meaningful discussion about the effects of Residential Schools and the legacy they have left behind. It lends itself to a discussion that all Canadians can participate in, and fosters bridges with one another for reconciliation. It is a day for survivors, and those that have been impacted, to be reaffirmed that they matter. Every Child Matters. Join us in wearing orange tomorrow to show your support!
Teaching and learning about Truth and Reconciliation in a meaningful way through the development of common lessons, activities and themes will be a major focus both before and after the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation on September 30th. We would invite you to take a moment to read the Statement of Apology by the Catholic Bishops of Canada to the Indigenous Peoples of This Land (Sep. 24):
This will warm your heart! ♥️🙏🏼
We are blessed with a wonderful community of priests in CTR Catholic! #IBelieveinCatholicEd 🙏🏼
Way to go, Daisy! 😃 Daisy Hagens, a Notre Dame Collegiate student has been selected for the Minister's Youth Council!
