It is with great pleasure that Christ The Redeemer nominates Shari Gustafson as its recipient of the CCSSA Excellence in Catholic Education Award. Shari is living witness to the Gospel in both word and deed, doing so with grace and mercy towards others. She is a servant leader to staff and students at St. Mary's School, Christ The Redeemer’s K-6 school in Okotoks. As one of Grace: Grateful Advocates for Catholic Education's founding members, she is a passionate and determined advocate for Catholic education in the province of Alberta. Shari works daily to inspire and activate holy moments within our Catholic schools. She exemplifies what it means to live like Christ and to share His love with everyone she meets. She offers up her hands and her feet to serve God by attending to those in need. Shari is a gift to the CTR Catholic family and we are blessed to have her as a member on staff who actively seeks opportunities to evangelize and help others come to know God. She is entirely deserving of this accolade! #IBelieveInCatholicEd 💙

Today we wear pink in support of Pink Shirt Day! It all started with a shirt... In 2007, students at a high school in Nova Scotia wore pink in solidarity with a Grade 9 student who had been bullied the previous day for wearing a pink shirt. Led by David Shepherd and Travis Price, what started as an act of kindness towards one person, has grown into a worldwide anti-bullying movement. Now in its 15th year, countless children and youth have been helped by funds raised by #PinkShirtDay. Last year alone, people in over 175 different countries contributed and showed their support for our cause. So when you wear pink today, you'll be in good (hearted) company! 💟

Congratulations to Stefan Cerkvenac from the Catholic Education Center who was presented with the Christian Witness Award for 2022! Stefan is someone who is faith-filled and authentic in how he attends to others with a servant heart. One colleague shared, his ability to embrace the hands of God shows that he is a true Shepherd of the Lord. He is always open to help others and is excited to share his knowledge of the Catholic faith with you. Moreover, his sense of humor and colourful antics continues to add joy and laughter to our Catholic Education Centre family. One cannot say his name without it bringing a smile to your face. Another colleague shared that he loves with his whole heart, going above and beyond to help a friend or neighbor in need, proclaiming the Gospel through actions first and words second, igniting true JOY, and feeding his faith through both prayer and sacraments. What has inspired so many of his colleagues is his complete and total surrender to the will of God and His plan. In recalling the letter to the Corinthians it explains that love always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Not only does Stefan offer this deep love to his friends, family and neighbor, he knows and proclaims this love to be the ultimate truth of our faith. On behalf of the Catholic Education Center, we wish to congratulate Stefan Cerkvenac as this year’s Christian Witness Award winner!
