From ashes to ashes. #Lent2022 #IBelieveinCatholicEd
#Lent2022 #IBelieveinCatholicEd 🙏🙏
All go to the same place; all come from dust, and to dust all return. - Ecclesiastes 3:20 Our Lenten journey begins today with Ash Wednesday, a 40 day journey to the cross. Pope Francis announced that today is a Day of Prayer and Fasting for Ukraine. "I encourage believers in a special way to dedicate themselves intensely to prayer and fasting on that day. May the Queen of Peace preserve the world from the madness of war". The ashes we receive today on our foreheads serve as a sign of physical death, as in ‘ashes to ashes, dust to dust.’ We began as dust (a joyless and lifeless existence), and our bodies will return to dust until we are raised up by Christ. By receiving ashes and keeping them on, we publicly proclaim our intent to die to our worldly desires and live even more in Christ’s image, which we focus on during the season of ‘rebirth’ that is Lent (a Latin term for ‘Spring’). #IBelieveinCatholicEd

Central Office staff were all smiles this morning as they prepared pancakes for staff at the Catholic Education Center, in addition to staff and students at St. Luke's Outreach. Today is popularly known as Shrove Tuesday. It is also frequently known as Pancake Tuesday, Fat Tuesday, or by its Latin name, Mardi Gras, which when translated from the French also means “Fat Tuesday.” It is the name “Shrove” that shows its religious origins. Shrove is the past tense of the English verb “Shrive” which means to obtain absolution for one’s sins by way of confession and by doing penance. Dating back to 1000 AD, over the years Shrove Tuesday not only became a day for confession, but a time for Catholics to feast on eggs, sugar and dairy which are traditionally restricted during the Lenten fast (40 days leading up to Easter). #IBelieveinCatholicEd
